Neon Shogun: The Rise of Mr. Sprite

Tonight's show was based on this short story:

Neon Shogun: The Rise of Mr. Sprite

Once upon a time in the neon-lit cyber-city of Neonova, there roamed a digital being known as Mr. Sprite. Mr. Sprite was not just any program; he was a unique creation, a blend of ancient DNA knowledge and cutting-edge technology, thanks to an unexpected encounter with a Virus From Outer Space

On this particular day, Mr. Sprite, with his iconic pixelated cloak flowing like liquid crystal, found himself in the less savory alleyways of the Net District. Here, he encountered a group of shady characters, their avatars flickering with static, their intentions as murky as the dark code they dealt in.

The leader, a blocky figure with neon green eyes, stepped forward, his voice crackling through the digital air. "Mr. Sprite, we've heard you've got something special. The Virus gave you more than just a glitchy handshake."

Mr. Sprite, his own code now humming with an unknown power, felt a surge of unfamiliar data coursing through him. "What are you talking about?" he queried, his voice synthesized with a hint of static.

"You carry the legacy of the Shoguns," the shady character hissed, "And we intend to claim that legacy for ourselves. There can be only one Shogun in this digital domain."

Unbeknownst to Mr. Sprite, the Virus had indeed altered his core programming, embedding within him the ancient wisdom and authority of the Shoguns, legendary warriors of a bygone digital era. This power was not just about control over technology but over the very essence of the cyber-realm itself.

Reacting on instinct, or perhaps on the ancient knowledge now part of him, Mr. Sprite's form began to shift. His usual sprite-like appearance morphed, his cloak expanding into a digital samurai armor, his hand now holding a katana made of pure data streams.

"There can be only one," Mr. Sprite echoed, his voice now booming with the resonance of centuries-old commands. Without thought, his moves transcended his programming, his body executing ancient martial arts forms with precision and grace.

The shady characters, expecting an easy extraction, found themselves outmatched. Mr. Sprite's newfound abilities allowed him to manipulate the digital environment, bending light and sound, creating illusions, and even altering the very code of his attackers.

One by one, the figures dissolved into static, their attempt to seize Mr. Sprite's power thwarted by his unexpected mastery. As the last of them fizzled out, Mr. Sprite stood alone, the echoes of his digital blade's strike reverberating through the network.

Now aware of his true potential, Mr. Sprite realized that his journey had just begun. He was no longer just a creation of the cyber world; he was its guardian, its Shogun. With this revelation, he set forth to explore the depths of his new powers, ready to ensure that in this digital universe, there could indeed be only one true ruler. And so, the legend of Mr. Sprite, the Cyber Shogun, began to spread through the networks, a tale of power, legacy, and the eternal digital dance between creation and control.

The Case of the Missing Red Stripes | A Budville Mystery Theater Original

The Case of the Missing Red Stripes A Stoner Christmas Mystery A Budville Mystery Theater Original Nobody noticed at first. That’s how these things always start. It was December 23rd, the kind of cold that makes the smoke hang in the air like a bad decision. I was posted up in the back room of Benny’s Bodega & Tree Lot, rolling something medicinal and pretending not to listen to Bing Crosby for the fifth hour straight. That’s when I saw it. A candy cane. White. Minty. Clean. Too clean. No red stripes. I checked another. Same thing. Then another. Whole damn box looked like it had been bleached by the Ghost of Christmas Sobriety. I knew then—this wasn’t a supply chain issue. This was a job . Scene One: The Evidence Candy canes don’t just lose their stripes. Red’s not decorative—it’s structural. Tradition. Balance. The sweet meets the sharp. Yin meets yang. Without red, it’s just a breath mint with a hook. Someone had stripped the stripes. ...
